Our patch of coast

Why our beach

Our local break is one of the friendliest spots on the coast to learn. A long sandy beach, gentle rolling whitewater, and a relaxed local vibe make it ideal for first-timers and improvers alike.

We meet right on the sand, a short stroll from the cafes and the shore. Easy parking, hot showers nearby, and a flat walk to the water with your board.

How a lesson goes

From the sand to your first wave

1

Meet and gear up

Say gidday on the beach, get fitted into a wetsuit and matched to the right board.

2

Land drill

A quick warm up and pop-up practice on the sand, so the water feels familiar.

3

Into the whitewater

Wade out to waist-deep, catch gentle rollers, and feel that first glide.

4

Stand up and stoke

Find your feet, ride one in, and grin like everyone does. That is the bit you remember.

Good to know

Questions before you paddle out

I have never surfed. Is that ok?
Completely. Most people who book have never stood on a board. We start gently in the whitewater and build from there, at whatever pace feels good for you.
What should I bring?
Just your togs to wear under the wetsuit, a towel, and something warm for after. We provide the board, wetsuit and rash top. A water bottle and sunscreen are a good idea too.
How fit do I need to be?
A reasonable level of comfort in the water helps, and being able to swim. You do not need to be sporty. We keep sessions to small groups so nobody feels rushed.
What if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. If conditions are not right we will reschedule to another day at no charge. A bit of rain is usually fine once you are in a warm wetsuit.
Can kids learn too?
Yes. Our First Wave lesson suits ages eight and up, and families are very welcome. Get in touch and we will help you find the right session.
